Bitwise 2008: A great success

We thank you for registering in Bitwise, the annual algorithm-intensive online programming contest.If you thought you knew everything about Bitwise, think again. We introduce you some of the lesser known facts about Bitwise in this mail. Bitwise has become a pioneer in this field, and has over the years established its popularity in both the national and international programming fraternity.

First of all the prizes, we are offering plenty of prizes, worth more than Rs. 2.2 lakh INR($5500) to 50 teams. We are equally happy to announce that we have over 2900 teams registered from 46 countries worldwide. The contest will provide a great opportunity to showcase individual talent internationally and benchmark oneself with the best in the world.

If you missed the contest then we suggest you to satisfy your urge to code by our previous years problems hosted here. After seeing the enormous popularity of our online Quiz Enigma , we have also put up Enigma’07.

As you know the contest was held on Sunday, February 10 at 12PM(IST).  The contest was  online, one-day event which took place for a period of 12 hours from noon to midnight.

We also held a  Dummy Bitwise(for the dummies ) . We  organized Dummy Bitwise just for you on Saturday, February 9th at 9AM(IST).

Its Official We have visits from 75 Countries in the last two weeks. Things are certainly heating up. Team Bitwise is burning midnight oil night after night to bring you the most challenging problems from all walks of computer science.

Bitwise ’08

Hey guys… posting after a good 6 months break…. aah.. was a bit rusty till this afternoon.Then the guys asked me to come out of my retirement and post a blog for BITWISE 08!!!

For the wise bit of people the name is enough…. here is what BITWISE is (and I quote):

“BITWISE is the annual algorithm-intensive online programming contest organized by the Computer Science and Engineering Society of the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, a premier institute in India. Bitwise has become a pioneer in this field, and has over the years established its popularity in both the national and international programming fraternity.

Since 2001, the aim of the competition has been to identify, challenge, and reward the best minds from all over the world in the field of problem-solving, algorithms and programming. The contest is an online, one-day event which takes place for a period of 12 hours from noon to midnight. Bitwise 2008 will be held on Sunday, February 10.

The problems would be put up on the Bitwise website. Participants are expected to solve these problems using C or C++ programming languages and submit their answers online. Responses from participants would be evaluated on the same day and the results of the contest would be announced and communicated to the participants at the end of the contest. The entire event would be organized through the Bitwise website.

I take this opportunity to invite you to participate in Bitwise 2008. The contest provides a great opportunity to showcase individual talent internationally and benchmark oneself with the best in the world, with more than Rs. 2.2 lakh INR at stake for the winners of Bitwise 2008.

It has been fun being part of the Bitwise organising team. Those frantic email thread that occupy my inbox… those “emergency” meetings called by sardar…. those meeting with our beloved NG (no puns intended guys) .

For me Bitwise is about team work. The 4th years showing their unity going beyond our famous hall lines and yeah course lines ( in NG’s words…”normal” BTechs n “Duals” )

And now the part where I acknowledge the people who have worked so hard and will work even harder in the run up to Bitwise ’08.

Firstly, Sardar… The president of the society… hats off to him!!!

Next in line come Monkey,Manchu,Servo,DK n Pandey: The Spons guys: The guys to whom we owe our refreshments … and yeah the treats,T’s n Jerseys that are due.

Deepak n Co. (Alok,Nema,Puneet,Tiwary,Arindam,Bindal,VD bhai) toiled hard for the website. They had done a good work. The site looked great guys. But things took a turn for the better side when Robin n Co. came out of their dens all guns blazing… and wolla… we have an even better site!!!

If you cant wait for the 10th of Feb ’08… well then guys login to the site … Rahul has a bit of wise stuff lined up for you that will leave you stumped n ur brain cells gasping for oxygen. Enigma is the name of the game.

Frankly Bitwise wouldn’t have been a reality if we didnt have a system in place…. yeah… the system team is next:Nadi,Bobby,Tolay,Lalli,Nitin,Sarthak,Kiran n Mayur(who did read the code in the end). We accept the challenge guys… we will try our best to screw the system over (and ironically hope it doesnt )

The last of the teams… famous for their secret meetings held in hideouts best known to them!!! U guessed it: The Problems team:Sai,Subhra,Vikas, n Mohapatro. These guys hold the key to the fort.. literally. Ask them the forbidden question and they will give u a look as if u asked them to commit a crime.

Lastly our very own faculty esp. Prof NG n AG…. their suggestions n guidance have made bitwise what it is!!!

So thats it guys.. those r the guys behind BITWISE ’08. As for me… I guess this blog tells u a lot about what I have done
